Open 9AM – 3:30PM
38 weeks per year
Kiddies Corner Pre-School operates from one room in the Herne Bay Football Club. All children have access to a secure outdoor play area, which benefits from a safe wetpour play surface and a sheltered area so that children can enjoy being outside in all weathers. Access is possible for people with disabilities, and there is a disabled toilet. The setting is open five days a week from 9:00am to 3:30pm for 38 weeks a year (term time only). The children who arrive or stay for lunch are asked to bring a healthy packed lunch.
Staffing and Ratios
Our Manager is a qualified teacher who leads the pre school setting, with half of our staff highly qualified to degree level, and the remaining staff at or working towards NVQ level 3. We have designated representatives to deal with special educational needs, Health & Safety and Safeguarding, Child protection etc – who are trained accordingly. Staff are kind, caring & always available for the children.
Staffing ratios are closely monitored within our setting. This ensures the best level of care for your child. Legislative requirements for levels of care are:
- 1 member of staff for every four 2-3 year olds.
- 1 member of staff for every eight 3-5 year olds.
Staff are also dedicated to their own professional development.
Key Person Approach
Each child will be assigned a key person before they start. The key person will be the special adult for that child and family, building a close bond and working with the child and their family to develop and nurture their individual needs – both at home and in the setting.
We are following the development matters curriculum guidance, which is based on four main principles:
- Unique child
- Positive relationships
- Enabling environments with teaching and support from adults
- Importance of learning and development
Development matters sets out the pathways of children’s development in broad ages and stages. However the actual learning of young children is not so neat and orderly. The characteristics of effective teaching and learning weave through them all. That’s because children in early years are becoming more powerful learners and thinkers. These characteristics develop as they learn to do new things, acquire new skills, develop socially and emotionally, and become better communicators. “Development Matters Sept 2020”
Each child’s development will be recorded in a ‘Learning Journey’ which you will be able to view at any time. This provides a lovely record of their time at nursery.
