The Local Offer is a forward-thinking, flexible and responsive social enterprise, treasuring innovation in service delivery and making a difference to the landscape of SEN and disability provision. It provides a membership platform for cross-sector specialist and targeted education, health & social care services working with, and on behalf of, children and young people with SEND.
1. How does the setting identify children with additional needs or send?
A child’s needs are identified by speaking to parents, discussions with staff, communications with outside agencies, observations and/or assessments completed by the staff
2. How will I be informed about the ways in which my child is being supported?
As a setting we communicate daily with parents, hold parent’s evenings 3 times per year. Parents are invited to contribute to and agree targeted or personalised plans, all children have learning journeys to show progress which are available for parents at any time.
3. How will the setting adapt the EYFS framework for my child’s needs?
The key person will plan for each individual child using knowledge of the child and their next steps. Targeted and personalised plans will be written based around your child’s needs using advice and strategies from outside agencies as well as our own knowledge of the child, we ensure targets are realistic and specific to every child.
4. What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Staff follow specific recommendations from outside professional’s including the use of visual supports, Makaton signing, time lines, now & next boards and social stories. The setting offers a variety of interventions such as Early Talk Boost, Maths, Language group, story sacks, Fizzy and Clever hands. We have communication friendly spaces.
5. What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or send?
We pride ourselves on our close relationships with all of our parents. The nursery Senco is always available to offer advice and support to families attending appointments and completing any relevant paper work to ensure all professionals come together.
6. How will the setting monitor my child’s progress and how will I be involved in this?
Your child’s key person will carry out planned weekly activities, observing and scaffolding your child’s progress. This information is shared with parents 3 times per year in a progress report and your child’s developmental level will be tracked and progress analysed by the setting manager. Targeted and personalised plans are reviewed termly (6 times per year) and parents are involved in this process.
7. How do you ensure children with additional needs or send can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
Where possible all activities provided will be accessible to all children, for some planned trips parents maybe asked to accompany their child.
8. How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties/wheelchair users?
At Pre-school there is limited access to the front of the building, once inside the nursery is on one level with access to the garden.
At Day Care there is access to ground floor only for mobility difficulties/wheelchair users, but no toileting facilities.
9. How will you support my child’s transition to a new setting or school?
We would arrange for the setting/school to come and observe and talk to the key worker, arrange additional visits to the new setting/school with the support of key worker if needed. We are able to provide the child/family with a personalised book all about the new setting/school. Meetings between key staff from both settings to share information are arranged before transition.
10. How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its sen provision and how can parents/carers take part in this evaluation?
Parents are invited to complete questionnaires regarding the nursery set up, their child’s thoughts and feelings about coming to the setting and to make any suggestions on how to improve.
11. Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
Parents should ring the setting and arrange for a visit, ensuring they speak to staff about any concerns or additional requirements they may have.
12. What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents/carers, including compliments and complaints?
We have an open-door policy where there is always a senior member of staff available. Parents are able to message the manager directly or post onto our secure Facebook group. Past parents have left reviews on our public Facebook page. If parents feel it necessary to make a complaint the nursery will follow their written procedure.
